Problem: Updating a password on your Mac Keychain is not working.
Resolution: Try the steps below to delete your password first.
Apple computers use a password management program called keychain to store your passwords, account numbers, and credit card information (if you want), add it to the cloud, and sync that information across your devices.
As handy as this tool is, it becomes a little unwieldy when you have to change a password, as you need to update the information within the keychain itself or delete the old information and let it add the new information. This causes problems logging in - even when you input the correct, new password. Deleting the old password will allow you to use your new password.
Here are some steps to follow to delete old passwords from your keychain:
- Open Keychain Access, which is in the Utilities folder within the Applications folder.
- In the main window pane of Keychain Access locate the website with the password you just changed (there will be a pencil logo beside it).
- Right-click on the link and select delete.
- Try to log into your account again using your new password.
